Skopelos Folklore Museum
The Folklore Museum of Skopelos is housed in a well-preserved
traditional building of 1765 in the town centre. The descendants of the
island elder Giannios Chatzistamatis-Nikolaidis donated the building to
the Municipality.
The purpose of establishing the museum is to promote the culture of
Skopelos by combining the past and present issues relating to the
traditions and activities of the island. The exhibits of the museum
cover the last two centuries of collective memory of shipping and
commerce of the place.
There is also a collection of local handicrafts and clothing, household
goods and artistic creations of potters and knife makers, who until now
keep their original style. Also invaluable are the collection of
furniture, pictures and paintings and the extensive collection of old
photographic material which reveals the past of Skopelos and the
Nikolaidi family. |
