Skopelos Churches & Monasteries
Skopelos is full of churches & monasteries. Many of them are
located at Hora (Skopelos Town). So if you walk the small paved alleys
you may see them almost at every turn you take! Some of them are open
during the year, however many of them are not open - only their feast
day.
We will do our best to review all of them! In the meantime you may
check the following ones:
Evangelistria,
Agios
Riginos, Zoodochos
Pigi, Metamorphosis,
Panagia
Livadiotisa, Episkopi,
Agios
Ioannis, Agia
Barbara, Panagia
or Panagitsa.
Monastery of Agios
Ioannis
A unique place to visit. 23 km
from Skopelos town, located at the top of a hill and was built during
the 18th
century. After a drive in pine forests and unique
nature you reach the Agios Ioannis monastery (Ai Yiannis). |

It is dedicated to Saint John the
Baptist. We strongly
suggest to get to the monastery (but be careful with the stairs) and
experience a fantastic view!
Much of the building was ruined by the 1967 earthquake, but it has been
reconstructed.

Hanging
below the icons are silver 'dedications' - eyes, feet, ears and
other ailing body parts whose owners are praying for a cure.
Also, it maintains various icons from the 16th, 17th
and 18th century.
